Santorini

I headed out to Santorini in great anticipation of a fantastic holiday, but with slight trepidation of the landscape photography opportunities.

Santorini has some of the most famous European and Greek landmarks that make it a real destination for landscape and tourism photography. However, that can often mean standing shoulder to shoulder with masses of other photographers, all shooting the exact same photo – and this has never been my style. I’ve always tried to find different angles and perspectives to put my own stamp on the traditional shots.

I went to Santorini at the end of the summer season and the timing was perfect. The weather was still glorious, and all the crowds were gone. I didn’t have to compromise on time or space to seek out my shots and was able to fully appreciate the views – which were spectacular.

Not only did I capture the blue domed churches in my own way, but I travelled the island from sunrise to sunset looking for unique views that could bring a different perspective of the island. I was gifted with some dramatic sunrises and sunsets that add depth to the gallery, as well as some unexpected ancient coastline shots that show Santorini’s rich volcanic history.
