South Stack Sunset

from £30.00

While working in Anglesey, Wales, I took advantage of the location to capture as much landscape photography as possible. South Stack Island, with its lighthouse and great vantage point for sunsets, is a popular location for photography. Much of the landscape here reminds me of the coastal paths at home in Cornwall, and it has long been my intention to add South StackIsland to my Welsh landscape photography portfolio.

Heading to the island for sunset, I took my time to search out spots that would provide additional features to my shots beyond whatever might happen in the sky. I found a place to the left of the island where I could capture parts of the cliffside. Coastal flowers always provide a nice detail to the foreground, particularly in this instance as the light pinks contrast against the dark grey cliffs.

Fortunately, it was a bright, bold sunset with vivid orange skies. With the sun facing directly into the camera, I waited until it had passed behind the horizon to reduce the glare and even out the lighting of the shot while still taking advantage of the vivid warm glow in the sky. I used a neutral density filter to smooth out the texture of the cloud and water and blend them together in the background.

South Stack Sunset shows the beauty of the Welsh coastline with striking pops of colour and a variety of features to catch the eye. The smallest details of the lighthouse are printed perfectly in high definition making this a great addition to your wall space.
