St Mark's Waterfront
St Mark's Waterfront is a panoramic landscape that perfectly encapsulates my experience of Venice during the masked carnival season. There are four unique elements that comprise the scene: the rising sun, masked performer, fleet of gondolas and historic architecture on the distant island of San Giorgio Maggiore. In combination these elements work together to give the image a timestamp and sense of place.
I decided to shoot a panoramic scene in order to capture the full spectrum of light from the bursting sunrise on the horizon to the left, to the fading pre-dawn twilight on the right. The dress of the masked performer blends beautifully with the shifting clouds in the centre of the scene.
