Tri-Cacti Arizona
Travelling through Arizona, I stopped in Lost Dutchman State Park to immerse myself in the desert where I captured this image as part of my USA Landscape Photography gallery.
Living in coastal Cornwall, I am used to being near water and use it as an element in a lot of my landscape photography. Arizona could not be a more different environment, covered in dusty yellow sand and sparse in its greenery. It was great to be working with different colour palettes and textures in the natural scenery.
The state is world famous for its cacti, and the Saguaro Cactus, also referred to as the Organ Pipe Cactus is native to Arizona. The cacti were everywhere and so I took my time to find a plant that worked well with its surroundings. The sun hitting the three very straight stems of this plant caught my attention. The bright light and subsequent dark shadows really highlighted the spiny ridges and provided a harsh structure against the backdrop of soft, understated clouds.
