I headed out in the darkness towards the Museum der Moderne in order to get an elevated view facing the Fortress Hohensalzburg with the sun rising behind it. As sunrise approached, the clarity of the night sky allowed a warm orange glow to spread upwards from the horizon. The gathering light is cast onto the River Salzach which draws the eye up the river towards the distant fortress. Spots of amber from the streetlights and windows scatter across the city, gently illuminating the urban landscape against the backdrop of the distant mountains. The overall effect is moody and atmospheric, of the city sleeping in the shadows of the mountains.
