Strandshag Bay Clear Reflection

from £30.00

Strandshag Bay forms a part of Derwentwater, south of Keswick in the Lake District. I walked down to Strandshag Bay on a late, overcast autumn afternoon. The water was relatively calm which gave me a great opportunity to capitalise on its glassy ripple-free surface.

I set my camera up in the shallows of the water and used a neutral density filter on a long exposure to further flatten out the surface. The lack of breeze allowed me to pick up the definition and depth of the clouds and draw out the coppery tones to the left and petrol blues to the right, while spotlighting some white light at the centre of the shot.

The treeline and fencing help to draw the eye into the centre of the scene and showcase the magnitude of the vast sheet of water stretching into the distance.

Strandshag Bay Clear Reflection is a limited edition piece, printed on metallic gloss paper that maximises the changing hues of the glassy water under cloudy skies.
