End of the Rainbow
Little Langdale is a beautiful part of the Lake District for seeing the rural, agricultural and industrial landscapes combine. The undulating valleys have lots of grazing livestock against a backdrop of slate hillsides that form the local mining and quarry trades. On my visit to the valley, it was a sunny day with intermittent showers, which gave a strong chance of rainbows and capturing the scenery in a variety of weather and light conditions.
In the afternoon, moments after a passing rain shower, a bold rainbow made its fleeting appearance. Rather than focus on the rainbow arc in the sky, I picked out one end as it dipped into the newly sunlit landscape. Against the background of rugged hills and vibrant greenery, the rainbow strikes a vivid flash across the scene.
