Causey Pike Light

from £30.00

Cloudy overcast days in the Lake District can surprisingly provide brilliant opportunities for playing with natural light. Taken in mid-morning from the top of Cat Bells, Causey Pike Light demonstrates the pockets of light and shade that creep over the hillsides from the shifting skies above.

The view from Cat Bells had highlighted the steep triangular ridge of a neighbouring fell that, illuminated by the sun, was cast in an orange glow and reminded me of the pyramids of Egypt. The sunlight creates a strong diagonal line across the shot, from the clusters of patchwork fields up into the tightly packed clouds.

Causey Pike Light is a limited-edition print that emphasises the stark contrast between the light and shade of sunlight and clouds, and its effects on a textured undulating landscape.
