Kynance Cove Pencil Sky
Kynance Cove is a popular sight-seeing and landscape photography destination in Cornwall. Located on the south east coast, to the west of Lizard peninsula, it is a landmark I wanted to have as part of my portfolio, with my own unique photographer’s stamp on it.
I decided to employ a technique I have used in my piece, St Ives Spectrum Sky, where I comprise still images and time lapse photography to create the pencil lines you can see in the sky.
Setting up the shot, I chose to avoid the harshness of the burning sun being directly in the frame. Keeping it a close left allows for the effect of the sunlight reflecting off the water, to lift the rugged coastline, without it being too dazzling and removing the focus from the landscape.
I took a large number of shots at timed intervals from the same static position, and have intricately layered them over each other to show the movement in the sky. This gives a different and unique effect from my long exposure pieces using Lee filters.
